Bio express
My artistic practice as a painter often flirts with prevalent persuasive imagery and ideologies. Having once been a devout catholic and later educated as an illustrator, my work investigates perceptions of idealism, beauty and divinity. Recent bodies of work include “The Guiding Light”, “Desire” and « A Vision in the Night, » which celebrate and scrutinize persuasive content and imagery of women found mass media.
In the series “The Guiding Light”, persuasion through seduction and unattainable perfection is the focus. This body of work draws parallels between luxury fashion institutions and medieval religious authorities of the past and their comparable use of icon worship. In the tradition of religious iconography, the works are painted on wood panel with gold leaf auras and halos encircling the figures of the modern icons.
My influences include artists such as Alphonse Mucha and Chuck Close as well as my fellow Montreal artists OMEN and Jason Botkin. I presently reside in Montreal where I participate in a vibrant artistic culture and am a member in the En Masse Collective. I’ve been featured in Juxtapoz, Cool Hunting and numerous other publications. My work is internationally collected and have been on display in Taiwan, Canada and the United States.
