Aerius Concept Car by Pei-Cheng Hsieh

Description originale

The Aerius concept is the new generation high performance electric vehicle for 2025. The concept is combining the performance of race cars with emerging sustainable and environmental friendly energy sources and materials. Aerius is driven by Michelin Active in-wheel electric motors at the rear and on-board electric motors in the front for instantaneous acceleration and agile handling. Aerius features an aerodynamically efficient body to reduce energy consumption and solar panels to constantly re-charge the carbon nanotube super-capacitors to extend its range whilst emitting zero carbons.

The innovation of the vehicle utilizes the advantage of the packaging of the components to maximize the aerodynamic efficiency to reduce energy consumption. With the use of Michelin Active in-wheel electric motors at the rear, the suspension components have been eliminated and made way for airflow around the vehicle. This airflow is used to generate down force at high speeds and at the same time reducing the weight of the vehicle. The on-board electric motors in the front provide agile handling. The top of the vehicle features solar panels to recharge the carbon nanotube super-capacitors thus increasing the range of the vehicle. Carbon nanotube super-capacitors feature fast recharge and discharge properties thus more energy can be stored and released compared to conventional lithium ion batteries.

The form of the vehicle is heavily influenced by formula 1 race cars. Efficient aerodynamics was a main part of the concept thus forms on the vehicle was all designed around that concept. The strong wheel arches hints at the four wheel drive of the vehicle giving it a strongly planted on road stance. The elegant clean glasshouse that runs the length of the vehicle represents the clean purity of the vehicle meaning zero emissions and the diffuser side blade links the vehicle to racing cars that the concept is trying to combine. The base colour of the vehicle is silver, which represents the high-tech and the blue flip colour shows off the environmental side. The silver chrome accents in the front intake and also the rim fans give the prestige up market feel of the vehicle to suit its market.

The function of the vehicle is intended to wealthy environmentally conscious company CEOs and celebrities. It is marketed to people who are aware of their influence in the world based on what they do. The vehicle serves as a symbol of success and status but at the same time it is also a green vehicle that the users can comfortably drive around on the road or track and not have to be concerned about polluting the environment.

The materials chosen for the vehicle is aluminium and composite materials. Aluminium is 100% recyclable, thus in the manufacturing process, the off cuts can be used to produce other products and there is no waste. The composite material reduces the weight of the vehicles and thus increases efficiency and reduces energy consumption. The less energy is needed to power the vehicle, the less time is needed to recharge and the longer the travel distance.

The design of the vehicle complies with current on road regulations for a passenger vehicle and Australian standards. The vehicle is also track ready if the user wants to race it on weekends at race tracks. The Aerius concept represents the next step in high performance electric vehicles. Performance and environment have always been two separated areas that are rarely mentioned together. The Aerius concept incorporates the two together to form a new generation of high performance vehicle for tomorrow.
