Biographie
Nils Völker is an artist and communication designer living and working in Berlin.
In 2004 he received a diploma in visual communication from the Bauhaus University in Weimar. Afterwards he moved to Berlin where he started working self-employed as communication designer.
He developed several corporate designs amongst others he took part in the development of the worldwide corporate design for the Suzuki Motor Company. Besides from corporate designs a major part of his work as designer is the conception and design of books. Several of these projects received awards such as the “Art Directors Club Award” (2007) and four times the “iF Communication Design Award” (2005–2008).
In 2009 Nils Völker started creating artworks with the means of physical computing at the intersection of technology and art. His creations often visualize data and information in an unusual way. In June 2009 he realised an interactive installation for an exhibition in the Netherlands that visualizes the movement of the visitors eyes. Early in the year 2010 he built a machine that converts the sound of car engines into paintings made with used motor oil on canvas and a cars backlight on exposure photographs.
Currently he explores new ways of reproducing data and creates machine-drawn light paintings.
