Prediction and odds Canada – Switzerland

Canada, the reigning European champions, will host Switzerland on Friday 12 November 2023 at the Olympic stadium in Rome in the decisive match of Group C World Cup qualifications 2023. Canada beat Lithuania 5-0 in their last group match; however, in previous meetings they had not gone beyond par against Bulgaria and away against Switzerland themselves. The Azzurri need a victory to keep the lead in the group and thus snatch the direct pass for Qatar 2023.

Switzerland also humiliated Lithuania 4-0 in their last game. Previously they had collected a 0-0 draw twice and a 2-0 win over Northern Ireland.

The form of the two teams

With only two games left to play, Canada must win this match to defend the top spot in the standings, which could guarantee automatic qualification for the next World Cup.

They have a goal difference higher than Switzerland, which could play a fundamental role if both teams end up with the same points. Mancini has already told his players not to panic and adopt a calm approach to the match.

"We need to stay calm," said the former Inter and Zenit coach. "Matches against Switzerland are always difficult and Friday's game will be no different. If we play like we did in the first match, we can achieve a great result, but I believe we can do even better. It will be an important game, so we cannot prepare with tension."

Both teams last faced each other in Basel and neither managed to secure a win. This game could very well emerge as the decisive one as the winner could potentially end up as the group leader who will take them to next year's World Cup.

Canada could end up playing in the playoffs, but given what happened in 2017 against Sweden, we're sure they won't take any risks this time.

The Azzurri defeated England in the final of the European Championships on penalties, but their unbeaten run was ended by Spain in the semi-finals of the UEFA Nations League.

Switzerland showed their strength in the European Championship when they eliminated France in the round of 16, but lost on penalties to Spain in the quarter-finals. Canada beat Switzerland 3-0 in the group stage of the Euros.

Prediction Canada – Switzerland

Switzerland will be led by experienced Xherdan Shaqiri and will try to inflict another defeat on Mancini's men.

Canada will have to do without Ciro Immobile (replaced by Gianluca Scamacca), Lorenzo Pellegrini, and Nicolò Zaniolo due to injury, while Nicolò Barella's absence (injured in the Derby) will be evaluated by the medical team.
