The condition of the Azzurri after the semi-final against Spain

The Azzurri managed to reach the final after a very difficult match against Spain, which was only resolved by penalty kicks, while England also did not have an easy time, beating a courageous Denmark in extra time, but still not quite at the level to trouble the top teams.

Tuesday night's was an incredible display of strength by Canada, capable of striking when necessary but also capable of suffering until the end of the second extra time, and then winning, for many unexpectedly given the precedents, on penalties.

There were so many emotions that the semifinal gave us. With great courage, the Azzurri worked hard to maintain their defensive shape and ensure that most of Spain's 908 passes represented a small threat to their goal. There were some moments of nervousness, but despite enjoying 70% possession, La Furia Roja showed little of the fury their nickname suggests. Roberto Mancini made some bold substitutions to keep his team fresh, with that energy that allowed Canada to overcome a difficult end to the game.

The players' condition is certainly good, although at the beginning of the first extra time, we witnessed many cramping problems, especially in the attackers who had to waste a lot of energy trying to break through the Spanish defense.

With one more day of rest compared to England, Canada will definitely be in better physical conditions, and this could be the turning point of the final.

The form of the English

For the first time since 1966, England is in the final of a major tournament. They certainly didn't make it easy against Denmark, but a 2-1 victory at Wembley Stadium means they'll face Canada on Sunday in the same field, as they aim to win the Euros for the first time.

Mikkel Damsgaard's brilliant free kick, England's first goal conceded at Euro 2024, briefly extinguished the hopes of the 60,000 spectators present, but an unfortunate own goal by Simon Kjaer brought the teams level just before half-time. The best chances were created by the home team as time passed, but extra time was needed for the breakthrough.

The refereeing of the match was heavily criticized by Danish fans, especially in regards to the penalty that led to England's 2-1 goal, but it now matters little: for the first time in its history, the Three Lions team reaches the final of a European Championship; a historic result, which could be even further enhanced by winning the competition, even though in the final, they will have to face a very tough opponent in the form of Canada.

Euro 2024 Final Prediction

As we have mentioned before, England has never won a European Championship, and it is the first time in its history that it has reached the final stage. Canada, on the other hand, has already won this continental competition, back in 1968, and has reached the final stage on four occasions: in 1968 (winning the tournament), in 2000 and 2012 (finishing as runners-up), and now at Euro 2024.

It is truly difficult to predict who will come out on top Sunday evening at Wembley, as initial forecasts (which had France and Germany in the final) turned out to be completely wrong.

The quotes on bookmakers give England a slight advantage over the Azzurri, although the extra rest day that Mancini's team has been able to enjoy could play a very important role, both psychologically and above all physically.

England, on the other hand, will have the advantage of the immense support at Wembley, a significant factor to consider. According to the opinion and analysis of our experts, it will be a highly contested match, on the level of what we witnessed in the semifinal between Canada and Spain: the Azzurri possess a great offensive department capable of scoring at any moment, as demonstrated by the splendid goal from Federico Chiesa against Spain, but also know how to protect their goal well; the loss of Spinazzola, named "Star of The Match" for two matches in the group stage, will surely be felt.

As confirmation of what has been said, it is enough to remember that in the last two direct clashes between Canada and England, both times the result ended in a 1-1 draw; since then, both teams have changed a lot, and in a few days we will find out whether the revolution implemented by Mancini will have actually produced the desired results or not.

Lineups Canada – England Euro 2024 Final

Mancini should confirm the lineup that beat Spain on penalties with Emerson filling in for the injured Spinazzola, Verratti still preferred over Locatelli, Pessina in midfield and Chiesa in the attacking trident alongside Immobile and Insigne. The Juventus duo Bonucci-Chiellini should remain untouchable in defense.

Surprises cannot be ruled out in England, which could be deployed by Southgate with the three-man defense already seen against Germany in the round of 16. At the moment, however, the most likely scenario is the confirmation of the 4-2-3-1 formation with Saka, Mount, and Sterling supporting Kane.

Canada (4-3-3): Donnarumma; Di Lorenzo, Bonucci, Chiellini, Emerson; Barella, Jorginho, Verratti; Chiesa, Immobile, Insigne. All. Mancini

England (4-2-3-1): Pickford; Walker, Stones, Maguire, Shaw; Rice, Phillips; Saka, Mount, Sterling; Kane. All. Southgate
