Security and Reliability of Tennis Betting

As you may have understood by reading other pages of our portal, safety is the main characteristic for the experts at Betting Trends now when it comes to reviewing portals that offer the possibility of betting, including on tennis.

Our goal is to help bettors stay safe when playing online, both in terms of using sites authorized by AGCO and avoiding unpleasant computer inconveniences. By creating the list we have seen above, we believe we have offered tennis bettors a wide selection of betting portals, all proven, tested, authorized by ADM (formerly AGCO), and verified.

How we ranked the top tennis bookmakers

There is a lot to consider when ranking bookmakers that offer tennis betting. Below we have detailed all the criteria used.

  • Safety-Safety is highly regarded by the experts at Betting Trends now, which is why we consider it the most important category. From encryption to various other safety measures, tennis betting sites must ensure they do their job well for bettors. All the bookmakers we have included on our list prioritize this aspect.
  • Number of markets-Simply put, the more markets available, the better. In order for a company to rank highly on our list of tennis betting sites, it must offer a wide variety of betting markets.
  • Quote – The higher the odds, the higher the winnings. Sites that are known to offer lower odds on a regular basis will not appear in our top ten. Those tennis betting portals that consistently offer higher odds than their competitors may be included in our ranking.
  • Bonus-Another important factor to consider are bonuses. Whether it's a welcome bonus, enhanced odds or special promotions specific to tennis, those tennis betting portals that excel in this area will always be at the top of our list.
  • Usability-Usability is another key factor. Tennis betting sites can have all the markets, but it becomes somewhat irrelevant if their site is difficult to use. Only well-designed and easy-to-navigate sites and apps will be included in our top ten.
  • Features-Extra features can be a game-changer in today's saturated online gambling market. Those tennis betting sites with useful features such as withdrawals, statistics, great content, and live streaming will have a high position.

Types of tennis bets

We have already written several times on this page about how important it is for a bookmaker to offer a good selection of different market types. This also applies to tennis betting. Below, we will explain some of the most popular types of bets for tennis betting.

Our goal is to give our readers an overview of what the market potentially offers. Every tennis match ends with a single winner (or a pair of winners when playing doubles); the one who reaches two sets first wins (or three in the case of the four Grand Slams). However, it can also happen that a match ends with an athlete's forfeit.

Here are the most popular tennis betting types:

Match Winner / Winner Tennis / Head to Head tennis

Here bettors can bet on the final winner of a game.

First Set Winner

As per the definition, bettors can also wager on which of the two players will win the first set, i.e. the opening set.

Under Over Tennis

Things get slightly more complicated here. Tennis betting sites also offer the option to bet on the under and over, just like in football. Instead of goals, in this case we need to guess the number of sets. Therefore, the bettor can bet whether there will be less or more than 21.5 sets in the match. The over/under number set by the bookmaker will vary depending on the match. For example, in women's tennis, one match may have the line set at 19.5 and another at 22.5.

Set result

In this case, bookmakers offer the opportunity to bet on the overall score of the sets in a match. For example, Nadal beats Federer 2 sets to 1 (or in 3 sets). This is the tennis equivalent of the popular correct score betting market in football.

Total sets

Here the bettor can bet on the number of sets that will be played. For example, 2 or 3 sets in a women's match on the WTA Tour, or 3, 4 or 5 for a match between male players on the ATP Tour.

Antepost Tennis

Tennis antepost bets focus on the final outcome of a tournament. An example of an ante-post tennis bet could be to bet on Novak Djokovic as the winner of the next edition of Wimbledon before the start of the English Championships.

Handicap

Very popular when it comes to football betting, a tennis handicap bet is equivalent to betting on a player with a number of set or game advantage or disadvantage. For example, if you were to bet on "Serena Williams-2.5 Games", this would be equivalent to betting on the American champion to win by at least three games for the bet to be considered a winner.

Correct Score Tennis

Another popular choice for those who practice online tennis betting is the "Exact Result" bet. Here, the bettor can bet on the exact score of a match or a set.

In the following table we will discover who were and who are the tennis players who have won the most matches in their careers (bold denotes players still active).

Tennis player Play Won % Wins
Jimmy Connors 1557 1274 81%
Roger Federer 1519 1246 82%
Ivan Lendl 1310 1068 81%
Guillermo Vilas 1248 951 76%
Rafael Nadal 1232 1025 83%

Tennis Betting Tips

Betting on tennis is not only a pastime for fans of the sport but also for those who are less experienced, always on the hunt for new disciplines to bet on. Sometimes, betting while watching a Wimbledon or Open d'Canada final, for example, makes it all the more spectacular.

However, there are many aspects to consider before placing our bets on a tennis match. Here are some key points to keep in mind in order to make the most of tennis betting:

  1. Learn to know the players, both male and female
  2. Distinguish the type of game based on the playing surface
  3. Stay informed about the progress of the season

Here are some useful tips for your tennis bets:

  • Get to know the athletes on the field – Who are the players on the field? How do they perform on certain surfaces? How do they perform in certain weather conditions? Have they been recently injured? Do they have a particularly good/bad record against their next opponent? Have they recently changed coaches? Can a player's style help or hinder them against their next opponent? These (and many others) are all things to be aware of when regularly betting on tennis.
  • Know the playing surface – The playing surface is something to always consider when betting on tennis. Tennis is a sport with different types of surfaces, only some of which are suited to certain players. For example, before a tournament on red clay, you may notice a player in great form, coming off a recent tournament win, is rated with fairly high odds. Given their recent form, a bet on this player may seem great. If, however, you bet on a highly rated player who is quickly eliminated, it may mean they are a specialist for other surfaces.
  • Statistics and Information – There are thousands of sports information websites on the internet and this is also true for tennis. Although it may take some time to go through all these pages, there is a lot of excellent information available online. Use this information to make smart decisions when betting on tennis. Stay updated, look up statistics, read expert opinions, and see what their betting tips are for tennis.
  • Specialize-If your goal is to succeed in online tennis betting, then you need to specialize, as it is impossible to stay constantly updated on everything. Carve out a corner of the tennis betting world and learn it inside and out. For example, you could choose to specialize in women's ATP Tour events or only bet on Grand Slams, focusing your attention exclusively on the best tournaments of the year. Similarly, it is advisable to narrow things down in terms of types of bets. So instead of betting on multiple markets at once, focus your attention on a specific area, such as Over/Under.

The most famous tennis tournaments

The most popular and famous tennis tournaments, especially in terms of tennis betting, are the four Grand Slam events:

  • Australian Open (January)
  • Roland Garros (May/June)
  • Wimbledon (July)
  • US Open (August/September)

Among the other most important tennis tournaments and events of the year, we want to remember:

  • Miami Open (March)
  • Masters 1000 Monte Carlo (April)
  • Masters 1000 Madrid (May)
  • Internazionali d’Canada a Roma (May)
  • Olympic Tennis Tournament (once every four years)
  • Cincinnati Masters (August)
  • Indian Wells (October)
  • Masters Paris (November)
  • ATP Finals (November)
  • WTA Finals Torino (October/November)
  • Davis Cup final (November)

Wimbledon – All England Club, London

It only makes sense to start the list of the best tennis tournaments of the year with the most famous (and prestigious) tennis tournament in the world. Wimbledon dates back to the year 1877 when the first tournament was played on the grass courts of the All England Club just outside London, England.

Wimbledon is still played on grass courts, one of the many longstanding traditions of this historic tournament. Appearances by the royal family (and other celebrities), fresh strawberries and cream, and the famous all-white dress code are other traditions that have been associated with the tournament.

One of the four major tennis tournaments (also known as Grand Slam), Wimbledon takes place over the course of two weeks at the end of June/beginning of July. It attracts a long list of the world's best tennis players and has hosted some of the most iconic matches in the sport on the famous Centre Court at the All England Club, such as the legendary final between Bjorn Borg and John McEnroe in 1980.

US Open – National Tennis Center, New York

Typically the last Grand Slam of the season, the US Open is also the most famous professional tennis tournament in the United States. The US Open was first played in 1881 as the US National Championship. What makes it one of the best tennis tournaments to participate in? To start, it offers a different and unique atmosphere compared to the other Slams. It's lively, fun, and exuberant, just like its host city, New York.

This important tennis tournament takes place at the US National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, although many fans will stay in Manhattan and take advantage of the incredible restaurants, shops, and entertainment of the city when they are not admiring the tennis champions. Just like Wimbledon, there will be no shortage of celebrities at the US Open.

The US Open takes place every year in late August/early September and we believe it is the perfect way to end the summer. We are not the only ones who think so. In 2018, the tournament set an attendance record with over 800,000 tennis fans taking part in the event.

Australian Open – Melbourne Park, Melbourne

The first of the four major tennis tournaments of the season, the Australian Open is an event not to be missed by fans around the world. It is the largest annual sports event in the southern hemisphere and has been held at Melbourne Park since 1988, although the tournament dates back to 1905.

The Australian Open is played on a cement surface and has been dominated by Novak Djokovic in recent years. He has won the tournament eight times since 2008, setting the record for the most singles titles at the event. As the first Grand Slam of the year, the suspense is always high for this famous tennis event and, being one of the most attended, it is definitely on the list of the best tennis tournaments.

French Open – Roland Garros, Paris

The French Open is different from other major tennis tournaments as it is the only one played on clay courts. Red clay is known to be a challenging surface to play on, due to the ball moving more slowly. Some players seem to excel on clay, particularly Rafael Nadal, who has won 13 times in Paris.

One of the best parts of the French Open is the incredible city of Paris. There's a reason why it's considered one of the most beautiful cities in the world. With its charming cafes, exceptional food, fantastic hotels, and stunning architecture, it's the perfect backdrop for one of the best tennis tournaments in the world. With a history dating back 128 years, this tournament has hosted hundreds of memorable moments.

ATP Finals – Turin

The ATP Finals are another one of the best tennis tournaments. The ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) Finals date back to 1970, although they have had various names and versions since then. Since 2009, the tournament has been held at the O2 Stadium in London, while from 2023 it will take place in a new venue: Turin, Canada.

The ATP Finals follow a different format compared to Grand Slam tournaments, which use a single-elimination system. This event follows a round-robin format. Each player is placed in a group of four and plays against the other three players in their group. The top two from each group advance to the semifinals and then to the championship final.

WTA Finals – Shenzhen

The tennis professionals have their main tournament to close the season. The Women's Tennis Association (WTA) tour concludes with the WTA Finals, held in Shenzhen, China. Shenzhen has been tasked to host until 2028, after taking over from Singapore in 2019.

Similar to the ATP Finals, the tournament is played in a round-robin format followed by semifinals and finals. In 2019, the WTA Finals made history by offering the largest prize money in the history of the sport, with over $5 million reserved for the winner of the event. However, to win the entire amount, the champion would have had to remain undefeated and not drop a single set in the tournament. In the end, the singles winner was Ashleigh Barty, who took home $4.42 million.
